While other Disney princesses are simply known for their cleaning skills and ability to fall asleep on cue, Belle is an outcast, a bookworm, an intellectual. Despite being the “Beauty” figure, Belle is also the hero, she rescues her father, she rescues herself, plus she rescues Beast and everyone else at the castle. Belle teaches the ultimate timeless lesson: you should never judge a book by its cover. People are not only what they look like on the outside.
The lesson from Peter Pan is clearly more for adults than for children. And that lesson is to embrace our own magic of childhood — at least a little bit of it, for as many years as you can.
The ”Hollywood-pretty” characters from other animated films have a major impact on the body images of girls and boys, but Shrek manages to pull off a true fairy tale without feeding us super-skinny Barbie doll look-a-like characters. The movie centers on ”freaks” that are not considered beautiful by our society, nevertheless, being kind, smart and determined. It also reminds us to accept people for who they are in spite of their flaws.
